Surface in-situ instrumentation

PI Nikos Mihalopoulos
Operators: Giorgios Kouvarakis, Nikos Kalivitis
Participant University of Crete
Instrument picture

Ground level measurements of gaseous pollutants (O3, NOx, and CO), various aerosol particle parameters (PM10 mass, mass and number size distributions, optical properties, chemical composition measurements), as well as meteorological parameters (temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction), will be performed at the surface.

Concentrations of O3, CO and NOx, will be monitored with commercial gas analyzers (Thermoelectron). Size distribution measurements of aerosol particles will be measured with a Scanning Mobility Particles Sizer (SMPS) and a 11-stages cascade impactor, whereas the scattering and absorption coefficients of the aerosol particles will be determined by commercial Nephelometer and Particle Soot Absorption Photometer (PSAP). Additionally, measurements of high resolution aerosol chemical composition using PILS (for the main ions and cations) and EC/OC using a sunset instrument will be performed.
